The Superbowl of Pies

January 31, 2017

30 NFL teams may have already hung up their cleats for the season, but there are still two hard working teams that have the biggest game of the season ahead of them on Sunday, February 5th. The New England Patriots and The Atlanta Falcons will face off for what is promising to be a thrilling, action-packed Super Bowl game. While the Patriots and the Falcons will be serving up the ultimate showdown on the field, here at Granny’s Pie Factory we’ll be serving up our ultimate pie favorites at our tailgate gatherings. Here are the starting lineups:

New England Apple Pie

The Patriots Lineup:

Offense:
With Gillette Stadium being only miles from the heart of Boston, it seems only fitting to serve up our delicious Boston Cream Pie for this pinnacle event. The classic combination of layered yellow cake, thick pastry cream, and glossy chocolate glaze is a not only a national favorite, but also the official Massachusetts state dessert!

Defense:
In New England, Apple picking is a favorite fall activity and with hundreds of orchards sprinkled throughout the region a traditional Apple Pie is a solid defensive pick. At Granny’s Pie Factory in East Hartford, we wholeheartedly live by the saying ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away’ (even if that apple is in pie!).

Special Teams:
Special scenarios out on the field call for a special pie to get the job done. Our Cheesecake Pie is the perfect selection that’s up for the challenge! Suit up the pie with a blueberry and cherry topping – perfect to represent the Patriot’s colors!

Georgia Peach Pie

The Falcons Lineup:

Offense:
The official fruit of Georgia is the Peach, so naturally we will be serving up our “Peach State” pie favorites. Our Peach Pie, Blueberry Peach Pie, and Apple Peach Pie are all great options to lace up for the big day.

Defense:
Georgia is one of the top producers of Pecans, which is why we are putting scrumptious Pecan Pie in for the defensive team. A great tailgate serving idea is to partially freeze the pecan pie, cut it into 1 inch squares, serve with toothpicks, and with whipped cream or vanilla yogurt for dipping – it’s sure to be a crowd pleaser!

Special Teams:
The rich, creamy, and tart taste of Key Lime Pie makes it a clear competitor on the special team squad for the Falcons. This American classic is best paired with a chilled glass of Sauvignon Blanc.

The big question left to answer is who will the champion be? If you ask us, they all are! While there may need to be one winner on the field, all pies are winners in our book. Whether you’ll be watching the game on your couch or attending a tailgate party with friends, our East Hartford Bakery has the perfect Super Bowl pies for you to enjoy. Pick up your pies today!
