Apple Pie: A Taste of Fall

October 20, 2016

Fall is every New Englanders favorite season. The crisp weather and smell of freshly fallen leaves reminds us all that the warmth of the season is finally here! For most, that means sweater weather and the warmth of hot cocoa & bonfires. For us, what truly reminds us of fall are all of the memories made over a warm apple pie.

Cinnamon spice and everything nice (and flaky crust to boot), apple pie is not only a staple of the fall season, but of Granny’s Pie Factory. Just like identifying a chef’s quality by their egg dishes, you can always tell a great pie baker by the taste of their apple pie. It must have the right amount of sweetness, tanginess, texture and flavor. While we won’t give away our super-secret apple pie recipe, we will give you a few helpful tips on how to engage your inner pie-spiration and make your own homemade apple pie:

  • Homemade crust is always a must. Store-bought crusts never taste the same as the flaky, buttery goodness that you create in the warmth of your own home. If you don’t know how to make your own crust, it starts with eggs & flour. Or you can come visit us and buy fresh unbaked pie crust from our factory located in East Hartford, CT.
  • Fresh apples (‘tis the season!). I mean, what’s an apple pie without fresh apples? Here’s a #grannystip for you: get a variety of different apples. The more variety the better: McIntosh, Granny Smith, Gala, Honeycrisp and whatever fresh apples you can find. You can even make a day out of it and go apple picking!
  • Spice it up! Apple pie is all about the apples of course, so we recommend using spices that enhances the flavor of the apple, like cinnamon or nutmeg.

MMMMMmmmmm…we can taste it already…the warm gooey apples bursting from the crusty seams. Not only will the taste of apple pie feel like fall, it will make your home smell like it too!

We hope our tips help you to get your perfect taste of fall. Share your creation on social media by tagging your picture with #pielife. Or…if you’ve read this entire article and decided that you’re too cozy to get baking, don’t worry – we have your back. You can pick up a Granny’s apple pie at a local retailer or at our factory and throw it in the oven to warm it up (we won’t tell!). It will taste just as delicious and make your home smell like fall, it’s a win-win!
